Ornament Galore at Stefano Bardini Museum in Florence
Last week, with my super talented illustrator friend Ilaria Falorsi, I had the opportunity to visit Stefano Bardini’s Museum and I absolutely loved it! Can you believe it was the first time for me even though I’ve lived in Florence for almost my entire life?
Stefano Bardini (1836-1922) was one of the most prominent Italian antiquarians who gathered all kinds of art pieces during his life: stunning medieval architectural elements, Donatello’s Madonnas, tapestry pieces, frames, drawings by Tiepolo, crucifixes, hand-painted coffers, daggers and swords, coins, tin-glazed terracotta pieces from the workshop of Della Robbia, just to name a few.
After being a merchant for several years he decided to turn his private collection into a museum and at age 86 he decided to donate it to the Municipality of Florence.
I’m always on the hunt for beautiful ornamental details and this museum was so full of them that I took a crazy amount of photos!
Here is a selection: hope you enjoy!
The Bardini Museum is a gem and it is definitely worth a visit!
